Ms. Lindsey ALEXANDER
Graduate Fellow
Since December 2013
Lindsey is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at Harvard University. Her research interests include medical anthropology, the anthropology of science, and contemporary China. Her dissertation research project, entitled “Locally Risked Biologies: The politics of difference in global non-communicable disease epidemiology,” examines the social, cultural, and politico-economic antecedents of biomedical knowledge about the risk factors and determinants of heart disease in an aging Chinese population. It is sited in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China. She currently lives in Hong Kong in order to conduct ethnographic fieldwork for her dissertation.

Mr. Praveen BASAVIAH

Parveen obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University, US and Master of Science degree in Global Health Science at Oxford University. He is on the U.S. Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and a Clinton Fellow for service in India for American India Foundation (AIF). He has participated in two CCOUC field trips to China. His research interests include the connection between Global Health and International Relations, Psychology and Communication.
Ms. Cecilia CHOI (蔡婉诗小姐)

Cecilia completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2010 and her Master of Public Health in 2011 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and is now studying a medicine degree at University of Sydney, Australia. She worked on the disaster case study series at CCOUC. Her research interests are disaster response and post-disaster capacity building. She is also responsible for developing health education protocols for centre work in rural settings.

Mr. Bryant HUANG

Bryant received his undergraduate degree at the University of Miami in May 2012, where he completed dual degrees in neuroscience and international studies and earned departmental honors in both disciplines. His research focuses on integrating the natural and social sciences in order to examine the various intersections between science/medicine and environmental, political, economic, and sociocultural factors.

Ms. Cherry Lee Yung LIN (林莉蓉小姐)

Cherry completed her Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology in 2010 and her Master of Social Science in Clinical Psychology in 2013 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. During her fellowship at CCOUC, she had worked on research related to mental health in disasters and participated in two field trips to China. Her research interests also include psychological support in crisis management.
Ms. Carman MARK (麦嘉雯小姐)

After obtaining her bachelor's degree in Health Studies at University of Essex in UK, Carman received her Master of Public Health from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014, majoring in Population and Global Health. During her studies at CUHK, Carman has initiated a project regarding non-communicable disease management during disasters situation and had submitted it to the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U). At CCOUC, Carman will continue to explore the area of non-communicable disease management during disaster and will contribute the Ethnic Minority Health Project.
Ms. Barbara McCARTHY

Barbara completed an MA (Hons) in Sustainable Development from the University of St. Andrews (Scotland) with a focus on health geography. She has a background in mental health and worked in the United States as a drug and alcohol counsellor before joining the Peace Corps as a health educator in rural Kyrgyzstan, where she taught reproductive health in local high schools. She has also obtained an MSc in Global Health Science at Oxford University where she specialised in maternal and child health. Her research interests include reproductive health and rights, particularly in the context of complex emergencies.

Ms. Jamie RODAS

Jamie obtained her Bachelor of Arts from York University in Toronto, Canada, and a Master of Public Health from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also holds a position as a research support staff member at the Canada-based non-partisan organization called Research for Action, Policy Innovation, and Development (RAPID). Her research interests include disaster response, post-disaster capacity building, marginalized groups, and social justice in the developing world. Jamie speaks English, Spanish, and French.

Ms. Wei WANG (王伟小姐)

Wei obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Nottingham and Master of Science degree in Global Health Science at Oxford University. She works in the Health Bureau of Jiu Quan City in Gansu Province of China. At CCOUC, she worked on data collected in a CCOUC field site in China. Her research interests are Global Health, Health Policy and Public Health, and Epidemiology.
Ms. Nicole YAN

Nicole graduated from Northwestern University (USA) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Neuroscience. After graduation, she worked as a research assistant in an Alzheimer’s research laboratory and as a clinical research associate at AbelsonTaylor, a pharmaceutical advertising agency. She later joined the Peace Corps and worked as a health educator, concentrating on maternal and child health, in the Sahara dessert of Morocco. Her passion for public health led her to complete an MPH at the University of Hong Kong, concentrating in health policy. Nicole is interested in bridging the gap between the health experiences of everyday people, especially among vulnerable populations, and the board room where policy decisions are made.
