Synopsis

“Biological hazard” is regarded as a major human security threat to people’s well-being and development. In the era of globalization and rapid technological development, COVID-19 pandemic once again revealed how an emerging communicable disease might impact not only health, but also the socio-economic ecology of people globally. This Webinar and pre-session will examine how the latest World Health Organization Health-EDRM framework (2019) may inform the conceptualisation and assessment of health risks and proposes a Health-EDRM assessments framework for biological hazard.

By turning to the centrality of health in emergency and disaster risk management and Health-EDRM’s key principle of multi-disciplinary, the presentation will look into Priority 1 (inspire research that works to better understand the complex interconnections of systemic, compound cascading risks and impacts and their connection with vulnerability and exposure) and Priority 7 (foster interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder collaboration) of IRDR Global Research Agenda.
