Health workforce development strategy in Health-EDRM: evidence from literature review, case studies and expert consultations

In collaboration with experts from Harvard University, Tohoku University, University of Hyogo, University of Piemonte Orientale, University of the Philippines Manila and Sichuan University, CCOUC is conducting a study on health workforce development strategy in Health-EDRM. The research project is funded by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The United Nations Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction calls for the international community to enhance the resilience of national health systems, by integrating disaster risk management into primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare, especially at the local level. Health workforce, one of the six building blocks in the WHO health systems framework, is key to the successful implementation of Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management (Health-EDRM) practices. Health workforce development strategies are urgently needed to support national and international policy makers. This 18-month research project aims to provide recommendations on the way forward.
