First Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction in Bangkok

Two CCOUC members were invited to participate in the 1st Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (ASTCDRR) in Bangkok, Thailand from 23 to 24 August 2016. The conference was organised by the Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute (HAII) of the Royal Thai Government and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Regional Office for Asia-Pacific, with the support of Asian Science Technology and Academia Advisory Group (ASTAAG), Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) and other organisations. It was an opportunity for more than 300 members of the Asian DRR community from national governments, academia and scientific and civil society organisations to engage in a critical dialogue on the science-policy interface and the application of scientific research on DRR policy-making, as called for in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.

At this conference, CCOUC has strengthened partnerships with global actors and looks forward to its continual engagement in this regional and international platform. The discussion outcomes of this conference will be fed into the Asian Ministerial Conference of Disaster Risk Reduction 2016 to take place in November 2016 in New Delhi, India.
