CCOUC Hosts Field Visit for IRDR and Ewha Womans University Scholars on Disaster Recovery and Resilience

On 9 June 2026, the Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC) hosted a half-day field visit for colleagues from Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) and the Hazard Literacy Centre at Ewha Womans University, South Korea. The visit aimed to facilitate interdisciplinary knowledge exchange on disaster risk reduction, post-disaster recovery and community resilience.

The field visit included three locations in Hong Kong. At Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, participants visited the site affected by a major fire to better understand the disaster and observe post-fire recovery. The group also visited Tsz Shan Monastery, where they reflected on the potential role of spirituality and mindfulness in supporting disaster recovery and individual wellbeing.

The visit concluded at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), where participants explored the campus and exchanged perspectives on disaster risk reduction, hazard literacy and humanitarian response. The discussions provided an opportunity to connect different disciplinary approaches to understanding disaster impacts and recovery.

Through this field visit, CCOUC strengthened academic exchanges with international research partners and highlighted the importance of integrating practical observations, interdisciplinary research and community perspectives into disaster risk management and resilience building.
