Academic Exchanges in Mexico

CCOUC team including Prof Emily Chan and Dr Tony Yung visited the top two universities in Mexico on 22 May 2017 to promote academic exchange and collaborations.

They first visited the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) (National Autonomous University of Mexico) in Mexico City and met with Prof Rosalinda Guevara Guzman, head of research unit (Medicine) and Prof Rosa Maria Wong-Chew, professor in medicine. Prof Chan gave a presentation to introduce the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK and highlight key research and exchange opportunities and Prof Guevara Guzman shared the current activities and research programme at UNAM. Specifically, CUHK Global Health Exchange Scholar Programme, potential faculty exchanges, research collaboration and training were discussed.

CCOUC team then visited Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) (Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla) in Puebla City of Puebla State, where they met with Dr Miguel Antonio Garcia Knight, Dr Rosa del Carmen Rocha Gracia and Dr Patricia Lozano Zarain, all academic members from NMD Mexico of University of Oxford. The teams discussed about on-going projects, followed by a tour of the University campus including a couple of research sites. Both parties agreed with the similar objectives of formulating global partnerships and research interest. The teams will explore future collaborations in research, student exchanges/attachments and research project development.

The two academic visits in Mexico opened a new chapter of CCOUC’s work in Latin America.
